Strange area, you don’t know where to go and you drive. I spotted The Whipping Stocks, around two miles from up-market Knutsford, and it looked appealing. The pub has a large car park, an old world feel – the decor is a bit dated – and the staff were pleasant. So, I ordered a traditional roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. Three slices of beef arrived along with two roast potatoes and mash and a side dish with carrots, cauliflower and broccoli, all had a bite to them. And there was lashings of gravy, lovely. The only disappointment was the roast potatoes, they were bland. There are real ales available and I enjoyed the experience apart from a loud woman at the bar. One point to remember, there is a small surcharge for payment by card.
