WALKING along the South Bank in summer is one of my favourite pastimes when I have time to kill in London .I’ve passed The Globe and never been inside – apart from looking at the shop – until recently. My mistake. Admittedly I was being entertained to lunch, but the room had sensational views over the river which I enjoyed while being refreshed by elderflower lemonade. And the food, it was beautifully cooked and served. Individual touches assisted here as well. Take the bread, Borough bread (presumably from nearby Borough Market with unsalted Canterbury butter) arrived alongside Atlantic prawns, little gem, cucumber pickle, mustard cress, sourdough melba and mustard cress. Ideal for a hot, summer day. It was followed by maize fed chicken breast with warm salad, chorizo, runner beans, coco beans, spring peas, merlot vinegar and meat juices. It was a joy. Light and not heavy to digest. Dessert was an added bonus. Amalfi unwaxed lemon curd with a scorched crust had just the right tang. They even catered for my lactose intolerance. Wonderful.
