The website says: “Come in for the best fish and chips in London!” It is a massive claim as there are a few the last time I looked, but, frankly, they would be hard to beat. Possibly not on price, as Seafresh is not cheap, but the selection is huge – including house specials like sea bream and Dover sole – and service slick.
You can dine in or takeaway and this admirable restaurant – it’s not the most comfortable and it can be noise – is one of the longest-established fish restaurants in London.
It’s been there since 1965 and every time I’ve been I’ve enjoy your experience. The menu is good as it explains where the fish comes from, wild and windy Peterhead on Scotland’s East Coast, is one of the outlets.
The staff will be delighted to tell you how the fish is brought down fresh, overnight, by train or truck from Scotland to the world-famous Billingsgate Fish Market. We had cod and plaice. Both dishes were eye-catching. The plates were a tad cold and the mushy peas could have been hotter but the fish fell off the fork and the chips were great. Oh, almost forgot, my colleague Colin had a gherkin to accompany his meal – it was superb.
Help Seafresh celebrate 50 years in business this year by paying a visit. I’ll be back.
