Ristorante al Borgo, 535 Lanark Road, Juniper Green, Edinburgh EH14 5DE
RATING: Food 4.5; Atmosphere 4.5; Service 4.5; Drinks 4; Toilets 4
IT IS is always good to know that you will be looked after when you go out, not shown to a table, the order taken and the food delivered with only a cursory nod and little chat.
Well, you are assured of a warm welcome at Ristorante al Borgo, now well-established in the suburbs in west Edinburgh.
What’s even more important is that the food you order is cooked fresh and that allergies are catered for. If you have one then they will look after you here and cook what you want and with the ingredients you desire. Basically, you get personal service.
Coupled with an extensive menu and easy parking – the bus stop is right outside for those who prefer public transport – al Borgo is the perfect solution for many.
Three of our party had calzone. They were huge and all were packed with flavour and the accompanying tomato sauce was memorable.
My sea bass cooked with herbs and wine melted in the mouth. The potatoes were perfect but the tiny salad was, frankly, a let-down. It would have been better either loading it with more or not placing a tiny piece of lettuce and a slice of tomato on the plate.
That said, we enjoyed our meal and the minestrone soup for starter was also full of vegetables and beans, fine for my five-a-day.
So, if you are looking for good food and service at a decent price then you can’t go far wrong here.
