Ramblers, 1-2 Old Town, Peebles EH45 8JF
Had time to kill after a glorious walk along the sun-drenched Tweed early morning. There was a chill wind but the scenery was stunning and the dog walkers were full of chat.
Then I fancied a refreshing cuppa. The Rambles was recommended as being cosy and casual and used by locals. It is just off the main street tucked away next to a cook shop. The staff were pleasant, the service slick and the toilets spotless, but the ambience was not conducive to a long stay.
The chap tucking into a full Scottish – it looked good – was listening to his messages on his mobile. Bad form. It was certainly busy but I found the decor a tad depressing.
My bacon roll arrived. There were two rashers but one was burned and the meat lacked real flavour. Disappointing, The Earl Grey tea was presented in a large teapot and was piping hot. Just what was required.
There were papers – two I noted on the rack – but there are other options in this pleasant town and I’ll side-step Rambles. Incidentally, one of my neighbours has also used Rambles and though the same.
