We recently drove to London and wanted to stop en route. My wife said: “I’ve never been to Whitby.”
So, we booked the last room in The Pier which is opposite the small fish market. Let’s point out the positives first. It is centrally located near to a variety of restaurants and bars.
It’s also near the shops and the staff were most accommodating. The breakfast – mine was kippers – included fruit and flakes and was served in the bar. Good venue on a sparkling day when the door was opened.
The bed in our attic conversion – mind your head – was comfortable but the room had few mod cons. The internet worked well.
A double and a single plus another single in another room plus en suite with great towels and an easy-to-work shower. A wardrobe and chest of drawers was in one room and a seat in the other. There was nowhere to work.
Finding The Pier was difficult as the sign at near the swing bridge was not clear. It looked a pedestrian zone.
We were given a parking permit but our vehicle parked was two minutes away as spaces were at a premium. We left our stuff in the car but were concerned.
One night was enough and it was a good job we woke at 7am as sleep would have been difficult due to a delivery of beer. Nice guys but it was noisy.
We enjoyed Whitby but would find an alternative if we returned and took away a holiday homes guide. Some of them looked stunning.
