THE wind cut through as we walked from our car to the restaurant but the welcome and the food made it worthwhile. Daniela Cocchia spent almost a year working alongside a Michelin-star chef in the kitchen. She proved to be a quick learner and clients are now the beneficiaries. Her beautifully-presented food has been rewarded by a healthy, loyal clientele, some of whom travel the 25 miles from Edinburgh to enjoy her creations, no mean feat given the diversions in the city because of the on-going and irritating tram works. Daniela’s creative talents have been recognised at the highest level as she has won the coveted Italian Restaurant Chef of the Year title. She also made the shortlist for Scottish Restaurant Chef of the Year. It is easy to see why. Osteria cleverly use locally-sourced produce, changing the menu to suit the seasons. Their East Lothian location is surrounded by a bountiful larder of wonderful fresh fish, succulent meat plus wonderful vegetables and Daniella uses it to the full in her eye-catching dishes.
