Mackenzies, W Shed, Canon’s Road, Bristol BS1 5UH
RATING: Food 4.5; Atmosphere 4; Drinks 4; Toilets 3.5
WE had just come off an early-morning plane (up at 5.30am), taken the airport bus into town and wondered on a grey, cold morning.
We were in need if a lift and happened across Mackenzies. We glad we did. The leather sofas allowed us to lie back and chill and the smiling staff were there to deliver – and they did.
My English tea arrived in seconds and so did our steaming hot, foaming latte.
Then the food was brought to the table. Pam’s poached egg perched on spinach and bacon on a tasty roll was cooked to perfection, a wee squeeze sending the yoke cascading down the roll onto the warm plate. Heaven.
My huevos rancheros with fried egg was top drawer, the tomato salsa blending beautifully with the chorizo and melted cheese. Yummy. We were happy and lingered to read the papers and drink in the harbourside view.
