Staff at Hotter are walking on air after the shoe maker was named UK Manufacturer of the Year; secured a place in the Sunday Times International Fasttrack and are due to meet Her Majesty the Queen to celebrate winning a Queen’s Award.
In the past 12 months this unique business, which has its own UK call centre and 75 stores nationwide, has created 130 jobs across the UK – 113 alone at its Skelmersdale HQ.
“We’re delighted that the hard work and efforts of all our staff have been recognised with these prestigious accolades,” commented Peter Taylor, Managing Director. “To be named Manufacturer of the Year really underlines our heritage and expertise, we started making slippers in 1959 and now we make shoes that are as comfortable as slippers. The Queen’s Award for International Trade and our position in the Sunday Times International Fasttrack really bring our business right up to date; we are an international multi-channel retailer with a 120 seater call centre sited right next to our factory.“
From its HQ in Lancashire Hotter designs, develops and manufactures shoes for global markets, ships over two million pairs of shoes around the world each year and supports its customers with a dedicated call centre and personal shopping service that works across multiple time zones.
Hotter now employs over 1,300 people across the UK and, according to the British Footwear Association, is the UK’s biggest shoe manufacturer making a pair of shoes every 20 seconds.
