Gloucester Old Spot, 138-140 Kellaway Avenue, Horfield, Bristol BS6 7YQ t:0117 924 7693:
It’s quirky in the Gloucester Old Spot and the atmosphere, food and real beer are attractions.
This independently-owned pub is near busy Gloucester Road which houses a huge range of shops and two garages.
The Old Spot also has an extensive, enclosed beer garden which is great for kids to play in.
Lazy brunches, relaxed lunches, dinner, social eats and treats with friends and family plus Sunday roast are on the menu.
Dishes incorporate British ingredients with a creative twist. It’s the second time this year that I’ve ventured to The Old Spot and I’ve not been disappointed.
The menu is supplemented by specials on the board. My lamb and chorizo burger was spot on as was the beer battered fish and chips with minted mushy peas and house tartare sauce.
The beef quesadilla – strips of beef, spiced sweet potato, coriander and butterbeans and melted cheddar served in a crispy tortilla with guacamole, tomato salsa and sour cream (chips £1 extra) – also went down well.
Gloucester Old Spot it is well worth a visit. Parking is available on-street but the area can be busy.
