December special

Late availability but you have to be quick

One of the best value Northern Lights short breaks available, this trip to Harriniva has been designed to focus on the Aurora Borealis and features three different Northern Lights activities. The Northern Lights workshop provides ample time to learn about the natural phenomenon from an expert guide, to discover the science and hear the myths, as well as to learn the best ways of spotting the spectacle and capturing them on camera.

Next, gaze at the dark Arctic sky from the comfort of a steaming Jacuzzi. Spending an evening in Harriniva’s Aurora Spa, this experience is simply unforgettable, with the glow from the snow, stunning views of the frozen river and the Swedish border in the distance making for a truly magical evening.

The final Northern Lights activity offers the opportunity to tread into the remote snowy wilderness on foot on a magical snowshoe excursion. Reaching an Aurora Camp, with a warming fire, keep eyes fixed on the skies to hopefully see the dazzling lights drifting and dancing.

Daylight hours on this itinerary have been left open, so that the trip can be tailored to suit individual needs.

Relax and enjoy the hotel and the surrounding landscape, take advantage of the cross-country ski hire that is included, or choose from a range of winter activities that can be added to the trip, such as Northern Lights snowmobiling, husky sledding and a reindeer farm visit (extra cost).

This three-night trip is priced from £825 pp (two sharing), including flights (London), transfers, three nights’ half-board accommodation, activities listed, cross-country ski hire and cold weather clothing for the duration, Aurora alert throughout the trip (until 1am), and expert guides. Departure dates between 10 and 17 December 2017.

This one-off December holiday offers spectacular value for money for those wanting to seek out the Aurora and experience an authentic winter, north of the Arctic Circle. Four nights are spent in Harriniva, where an Aurora workshop will provide an introduction to the science, myths and legends behind the Northern Lights.

Next, an Aurora snowshoe hike will see an expert guide lead visitors to an ideal viewpoint for searching the skies for the spectacle. Days are left free so that time can be tailored to suit, with an excellent selection of Arctic activities on offer at an additional cost. This is also an area which is well-known for cross-country skiing and the myriad of tracks nearby offer an ample playground for independent exploration – ski hire and equipment is included.

Head to Jeris (just 20 minutes away) for the final three nights of the trip, where access to the Jeris Spa pools and saunas provides the chance to relax and gaze out across the stunning winter scenery. There are two spa pools and a sauna, as well as an illuminated ice pool in the lake for those brave enough to try an authentic Lappish tradition.

The cosy winter cottage accommodation offers an excellent opportunity to witness the Aurora as well as a base from which to explore the natural beauty of this pristine landscape.

This seven-night trip is priced from £945 pp (two sharing), including flights (London), transfers, seven nights’ half-board accommodation, activities listed, cross-country ski hire and cold weather clothing for the duration, Aurora alert throughout the trip (until 1am), and expert guides.
