THEIR website says they are noisy about food. Dead right, this restaurant is noisy but uncomfortably so. We were unlucky. It was packed and we were seated by the kitchen door. It was hard to talk. Bad start. Service was slick but my soup Pasta E Fagioli – a thick soup of pasta, creamy borlotti beans and tomato finished with extra virgin olive oil infused with Parma ham and chilli – came cold. Huge apologies. It arrived back – hotter – minutes later. It tasted OK and was filling but by that time I was disinterested. Yes they were busy but cold food! No way. Jennifer picked ravioli. The menu said: “Homemade delicate ravioli filled with spinach and ricotta, served in the traditional way with butter and sage.” It looked great but that was where the plus points ended. It was tasteless. Pam’s penne alla luganica Penne alla Luganica – tubes of pasta with a rich and spicy Italian sausage sauce – was hot and packed with flavour. Thank goodness somebody was happy. There is outside seating and, perhaps, we would have been better there but there is no guarantee. What a pity. Wonderful location but poor quality.
